In nature chromium is widely dispersed in the earth's crust. Industries use Chromium in the form of free metal that has a steel-grey colour and in the form of iron - chromium. Chromium is used in the preparation of nickel, cobalt and aluminium based alloys, in the oil industry as a catalyst, in electrical engineering and in the prevention of corrosion. Chromium is irritating to the respiratory system and may cause perforation of the nasal septum and also has a corrosive action on proteins.


Chrome oxide green is used as raw material in the preparation of pigments for porcelain plastic cements and refractory products. It is used as catalyst in the chemical industry.
