टंगस्टन

Tungsten, or wolfram, is a transition metal and has the highest melting point of all the elements discovered. Tungsten is rarely found on Earth and its color varies from white to grey. Its hardness and density makes it resistant to attacks by oxygen, acids and alkalis. Tungsten is mainly used in the production of hard materials based on tungsten carbide. Tungsten alloys have numerous applications, including incandescent light bulb filaments, electrodes in TIG welding, superalloys and radiation shielding. Tungsten compounds are also used as precursor in the production of catalysts.
